WLE 650 - Estimation of Demographic Parameters - This is a 3-credit graduate course that I offer during spring semesters of even years. As the title implies the course is focused on deriving estimates of animal demographic rates (e.g. annual survival, nest success) from field data. The main component of the course is implementing capture-mark-recapture analyses using Program MARK, and depending on semesters and student interest we also incorporate other common analytical methods such as distance sampling or occupancy modelling. I focus instruction and lab exercises on practical application, including methods for interpreting and presenting results.
The last version of the course syllabus is provided below. Note that beginning in spring 2018 I'll be teaching the course using the RMark package to implement all MARK analyses, so course content may necessarily shift a bit.
